People in Law Leaders Retreat
Retreat. Reflect. Reset.
Monkey Island Estate, Bray-on-Thames
Wednesday 7th – Thursday 8th October 2026
People in Law’s inaugural Leaders Retreat is a small, invite-only gathering for C-suite People Leaders from leading law firms – taking place at the Monkey Island Estate, a luxury hotel on a private island on the River Thames.
Two days, real conversations
Over two days, the focus will be on informed discussion, shared challenges and perspectives from both within and beyond the legal sector. The programme, shaped by a steering group of HR leaders from across the sector, will combine a small number of curated speakers with structured peer conversation, plus time to step back from the day-to-day and connect with industry peers.
Speakers include Marcus Child on developing and leading a high-performance culture, David Haylor on AI’s impact on how we lead, Grant Glazebrook and Gavin Sharpe on partner integration, and Mark Dean on anti-fragile design – plus a closing panel led by Rachel Reid, COO at Shoosmiths.
Expect to hear from Alison Kervin OBE, the leading British journalist and author of The Monster of Harrods, whose session explores how one of Britain’s most trusted retailers allowed abuse to continue for years – not through a single failure, but through hundreds of ordinary employees quietly following the correct process. It’s a timely session, landing just ahead of the UK’s new duty to take all reasonable steps to prevent workplace harassment, in force from 30th October.
You’ll also hear from Simon Lancaster, one of the world’s top speechwriters, as our after-dinner speaker on Wednesday evening. Simon has written speeches for Tony Blair’s Cabinet and for CEOs at Unilever, HSBC and InterContinental Hotels Group – and his 2016 TEDx talk, “Speak Like A Leader,” has been viewed millions of times.
