Please join us on Wednesday 24th June at 09:30 for an online session with Samir Abugideri and Jessica Jim, Senior Associates at Macfarlanes LLP.
Since the publishing of the Government’s Immigration White Paper in May 2025, a wave of immigration changes has reshaped the UK immigration landscape over the past 12 months and there has been a notable shift in how employers approach and manage the sponsorship of workers from overseas.
In this session, Samir and Jessica will guide you through the key developments and what they mean in practice for HR and people teams in law firms, including:
- increase in skill level requirements to graduate level (RQF 6);
- higher salary thresholds and going rates;
- the rise in the Immigration Skills Charge;
- the new B2 English language requirement; and
- the implementation of new travel systems – Electronic Travel Authorisation, the EU Entry/Exit System and ETIAS.
Further changes are on the horizon, including changes to the Graduate and High Potential Individual visa routes. More significantly, the proposed “Earned Settlement” reforms – which could see the path to indefinite leave to remain extend to ten years – will undoubtedly have a profound impact on long-term workforce planning and talent retention.
With Home Office enforcement activity reaching record levels, the session will also touch on sponsor compliance, including what the heightened scrutiny means for law firms holding a sponsor licence, and the forthcoming expansion of right to work checks to cover all workers, not just employees. You will leave this session with a clear understanding of the current rules, what is coming next, and the practical steps your firm should be taking now to stay compliant and plan ahead.
This event is free for members, £50 +VAT for non-members.
