Sustainable Recruitment Alliance: going green for graduates

Around seven years ago, the recruitment team at Clifford Chance realised it was producing more than 10,000 glossy brochures a year, buying a host of merchandise such as pens and mugs to give out at graduate recruitment fairs – only to find that bins would be overflowing with brochures and leaflets students didn’t want – and these would be headed for landfill.

The Sustainable Recruitment Alliance – co-founded by Clifford Chance and Blackbridge Communications – is an initiative to encourage graduate recruiters to consider taking a greener, more sustainable approach to their recruitment activities and processes. More than 20 organisations have already pledged their commitment to reduce, review and report on the carbon impact of their recruitment activities.

Jo Faragher caught up with Laura Yeates, head of graduate talent at Clifford Chance, to discuss what the Alliance has achieved so far, why sustainable recruiting is about more than reducing merchandise and why students are choosing employers that commit to a greener approach.
